southern poetry

at the book store
two nights ago

i knelt in front
of the periodicals

and searched through
the gray covered collection

for the name of a poet i knew
i wouldn't find

So very glad to see the creativity once more flowing forth upon the screen for us to partake in...
Enjoyable reads as always.

Well, the dictionary definition for the noun form of the word is "a person, as an artist or writer, who exploits, for money, his or her creative ability or training in the production of dull, unimaginative, and trite work; one who produces banal and mediocre work in the hope of gaining commercial success in the arts"; however, I think the definition does not necessarily have to restrict itself to a person's financial motivations.

In short, there is nothing original or moving within your work. Though I would never contest you calling yourself a poet (if you don't, who will?), you are not a poet, yet.

mike,

i wasn't asking for the dictionary definition, but very well.

i respect your opinion and your position.

but what of my work have you read? if southern poetry is the only piece you've read... or even the poems that appear on the front page of my blog at the moment, then i invite you to read more, and invite you to tell me the same after you've done so.

i could make excuses for myself, but we all have the same excuses, and everything is an excuse. so instead, i'll take this into consideration next time i sit down to compose.

Hi Katy,
Well, Mike got a free read from me by leaving a link here and after reading his work I'd say he definately has some first-hand knowledge of what a hack is! Hack away dear Katy...you do it with such heart and you are always there to support the rest of us hackers!
